Brownie Stress
We signed our daughter Allison up for Brownies this year. Hoping it would be a fun and learning experience. A chance to bond with other girls and learn more about nature and our state. And it was, for a while. It was great.
Then the troop leader went back to work full time. Now it seems all they do it go on outings. Outings that cost, $10.00 and $20.00 or more each time. On top of the dues. Outings that we could do any time on our own if we wanted like the dog show and trips to the skating rink.
I do really like the leader a lot and can't even imagine how much work it is to run a Brownie troop BUT again, this is not what I had in mind when signing her up.
I am aware that some of the other mom's have issues lately and are talking of pulling their daughters out of the troop. I guess I'll give it another month and see if things change. I know Allison really wants to be a Brownie. But running here and there and spending money every other week is not bonding or learning much. I bet she can't even name half the girls in her troop.

Ok I'm my daughter's troop leader AND I work full time in addition to being a single mom. I don't just take the girl's on outings either!! I would talk to council about finding a new troop or even voice your concerns to the troop leader. We get all kinds of publications that show us what we can do with the girls and alot of those things are cheaper than $10 and some even FREE. Plus the dues you're paying can be used for those outings as well. What is she using the dues for??
